Malmö, September 3rd 2007

Biolin AB is pleased to announce acquisition of Nima Technology Ltd of Coventry, England.

Biolin today acquired 100% of Nima Technology Ltd, a high tech company based on the University of Warwick Science Park, Coventry, UK, specialising in nanotechnology fabrication techniques.

This complements Biolin's strategy of putting together small entrepreneurial companies and using synergetic effects to create more value.

Together with its acquisition of KSV Instruments Ltd of Finland last year, it now means that Biolin is the market leader for instrumentation in nanotechnology fabrication techniques.

Nanotechnology is the generic term for technology at the molecular scale - a 'nano'-metre being one thousand millionth of a metre.

Applications are in such diverse fields as bio-membranes, molecular electronics and non-linear optics.

Says Dr Frank Grunfeld, founder and President of Nima:

The instrumentation is really a molecular construction kit - our customers dream up clever applications and molecules and we provide the tools to assemble them into novel devices - rather like a combination of LEGO and IKEA!' Already there are applications of this technology on the market - notably instruments for characterising pulmonary surfactants - the sprays that are used to help 'blue' babies to survive in the first few minutes after birth.

'This acquition will mean we'll no longer be bashing the backwoodsmen from Finland, but allow us to create more value for our customers.'

Customers, distributors and suppliers of both companies can rest assured that all existing contracts will be honoured and that the long term future is so bright, they'll need shades!

Full Press Release by Mr Fredrik Lindgren, CEO of Biolin AB (publ)

“The acquisition of Nima Technology will give Biolin and its subsidiary KSV Instruments a very strong presence in Langmuir-Blodgett technology. Langmuir-Blodgett is a small niche in which we see great potential for future development.” says Fredrik Lindgren, CEO of Biolin.

Nima is a leading provider of scientific instruments for surface chemistry research applications. The focus is on the so-called Langmuir-Blodgett technique for preparation and analysis of monolayers (one molecule thin layers). The product range also includes instruments for tensiometry (analysing surface tension of liquids).

Nima’s primary target group is academic customers in a number of different scientific fields. Nima has well over 1 000 customers worldwide and primarily supplies products directly to customers through its own distribution facility.

Nima was founded over 20 years ago by Dr Frank Grunfeld, who is still managing director. The company is located in Coventry, UK. The company has a total of 10 employees in customer service, manufacturing and product development.

Nima will continue as an independent business within the Biolin group. However, there is substantial potential for co-ordination of certain business activities between Nima and Biolin’s subsidiary KSV Instruments.

Nima and KSV will, with combined efforts, have more resource for the strategic development of the LB technology area. The companies jointly target to create customer offerings with greater value for both customers and providers. Nima will continue to focus marketing on its core group of academic customers. KSV will continue its strategy to offer complete solutions for both industrial and academic customers through its global network of independent subsidiaries.
