In addition to performing monolayer characterisation at the air-water interface, Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) Deposition Troughs can transfer monolayers on to solid substrates. Many thin film investigation techniques can then be employed to determine the structural, electrical, optical and sensing properties of your monolayer materials. Many thin film characterisation techniques are described in the Monolayer Science section.

Nanoscale films of custom thickness can be built up by repeating the LB deposition technique. Alternate layers of materials can even be deposited using the Alternate-Layer LB Deposition Trough.

LB deposited sample sizes of a few square millimetres to many tens of square centimetres can be fabricated to suit your application.

Precision control of the deposition surface pressure is achieved using a sensitive computer-controlled feedback system between the surface pressure sensor and the compression barriers. Compression barriers are made from Delrin, for enhanced monolayer stability, but PTFE compression barriers can also be supplied upon request.

All Nima LB Deposition Troughs have a subphase depth of 4mm. Dipping well dimensions, and hence suitable substrate areas, are dependent on the model of trough (see product descriptions). The LB dipping mechanism can support substrates of up to 3mm thickness. Horizontal (LS) deposition can also be performed on all LB Deposition Troughs using the optional LS Deposition Kit.

All Langmuir and LB Deposition Troughs come complete with computer interface unit, power supply, cables, USB adapter, mini-toolkit, surface pressure sensor, Wilhelmy plates, calibrated software, hardback user manual, Interfacial Science textbook and a monolayer kit to get you started making monolayers.
