For continuous, gentle stirring of the trough subphase, Nima offer a magnetic stirring device. The electromagnetically driven stirring mechanism sits in the trough subphase and rotates around a point above the motor box. This may be particularly useful in conjunction with an Injection Port to assist in the mixing of monolayer material in the subphase and encourage adsorption to the air-water interface. A magnetic stirrer is also recommended when injecting materials that modify the subphase properties in the presence of a compressed monolayer.
The PTFE coated stirring bar is very easy to clean so will not introduce contamination into your experiments. The thickness of the bar is small enough to prevent disturbance of the water surface. It is recommended that the rotation velocity be reduced to a very low setting during measurements of the Langmuir film properties.
It may be possible to use more than one magnetic stirring unit on your trough. Please enquire if you are interested in using more than one magnetic stirrer.
Please order the magnetic stirrer at the same time as your trough. For the electromagnetic motor unit to fit under the trough, lengthened feet will be connected to the trough.
Nima magnetic stirrers do not cause any electromagnetic interference with the barrier motor control or with the sensitive surface pressure sensor electronics.
Dip Coater Magnetic Stirrer
A magnetic stirrer is also available for use with Nima dip coaters. The electromagnetic motor unit is housed in a plastic case that supports the dip coater above it. Also included is a PTFE coated stirrer bar that is easy to clean. Several stirrer bar shapes and sizes are available and can be provided upon request.
The two magnetic stirrers are offered at the same price. Please specify during ordering whether you are using the magnetic stirrer with a trough or a dip coater.
