In 2019, a friendship was formed between York Fashion Week and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Leeds. For 2020 the iconic brand was back, but with a bespoke build Salamanca Blue Rolls-Royce Dawn, to celebrate. Plans then came together to have the new car photographed.
At the beginning of our partnership, we wished to highlight the connection between fashion and luxury cars. Aside from the overwhelming power which both emanate, it became clear that the strongest tie between them was the craft required to create an authentic and beautiful product.
Following our first collaborative photoshoot in 2019, which resulted in a stunning series of images that exuded power and style, we were eager to maintain the same level of impact in our shoot for YFW 2020, but from a whole new angle. We worked with the brilliant Olivia Brabbs to create the concept of the new shoot and explored how to best showcase that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Leeds had commissioned a new and exclusive car for YFW: a Salamanca Blue, Black Badge Dawn. A sleek, luxury motor car that carries all of the class of a Rolls-Royce, but with a perfect flash of fashion and opulence.
We began to explore the idea of the Spirit of Ecstasy coming to life in the modern world and decided to focus our theme around the juxtaposition of a supercar in an urban setting. After much deliberation, we decided on the riverbanks of the Ouse, which could give us the beautiful backdrop of York city.
Our concept was brought to life with a team of talented creatives sourced by NIMA. Designer Antonia Houston used beautiful fabrics from Gillies Fabrics and bodywear from Mey Lingerie to dress models Mia Cosquer and Paris Tyrell, and MUA Sonia Schofield created bold looks which complemented the Rolls-Royce. The models’ looks were completed with earrings and bracelets provided by Palenque Jewellery. Olivia Brabbs captured a series of stunning images once again, and we were thrilled to see the images come to life in such a gritty way.
